I'm Done

As of today I've had my last Sunday at work in the church. Next week I don't need to appear until the service begins. Somebody new is coordinating the childcare. I ran the big event last weekend (Sunday School Passover), not feeling well.

And I thought, retirement means: No more presentations meetings or celebrations that require my presence even when I'm sick. (Well, I've volunteered to teach an adult ed. course and will attend my "retirement dinner," -- there are always exceptions). At last I can rest.

No more getting paid, either. But also, no more bosses. No more back-stabbing "annual evaluations." No more nonsense, re: bathroom boundaries, coffee pot mishandlings, trees getting the axe. No more showing up in all weathers and getting phone calls at home from curriculum salespersons. No more large conferences where people get all excited and informed and occasionally actually trained. (I did enjoy the conferences, though.) No more dressing for success and no more Saturday nights spent in mental tension.

I know I will miss my job. I will miss the children waving at me, saying hi when they're bringing the foodbasket. I will miss working in my office and getting to know so many people through work. I will miss setting up structures and watching things run according to plan. I will miss staff meetings at times and doc bubbles (and David) all the time.

That's it, I'm done.
